Dark Romance Book Covers: Why the Watchers and Warriors Series Is Getting a Rebrand

The Watchers and Warriors series is getting new covers.

Why? Apparently, my books are darker than the message the current covers are sending. It isn’t easy hearing you may have picked the wrong cover, but when you’re just starting out, it can be hard to know how your books are resonating with the majority of readers. And TBH, I knew I’m a bit dark, but I didn’t realize how dark my books were.

Plenty of readers liked the old covers. But when a cover looks a bit innocent, and the book has darker themes, message lines get crossed.

It’s also important to stay on top of current trends. It took me a while, but I’m starting to understand more of the psychology behind choosing the right cover and setting the right expectations from the start.

Because my Wicked Heathens series will focus on antagonists who survive and get their own love stories, I’ll likely be leaning even darker with those covers. And I’ll probably stick with design-based covers rather than character-based ones. While the “where’s my shirt?” covers definitely send the right spice message, they’re becoming less popular.

So stay tuned over April, May, and June 2026. I’m hoping to reveal all the new covers during that time.
